Launch of new Trinity 500 pulling boats at Derwenthaugh Boat Station, 17 April 2011
Fortune smiled on us again with clear skies and a beautiful warm day. The Cadets looked splendid as they joined in the Parade and Colours. Cadets greeted Commodore Dicky Baum as he arrived, and then a young Marine Cadet salutes the Vice Lord Lieutenant Mr Fred Hoult. The boats were blessed by the chaplain, Rev. Cecil Bates, and then the boats were commissioned by the VLL and Commodore. The four boats were then formally launcehd by VLL, Commodore, David Byrne of the Nautical Institute, and Councillor Brain of Gateshead Council. Crews of Cadets took the boats down to the slipway and demonstrated the ease of the new rowing boats. Guests and dignatories also took their turn and a thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all. The day ended with tea and cake in the Boat Station.
